Stop debt collector from calling you

Do you jump up every time the phone rings? Are you feeling embarrassed because debt collectors keep calling you all the time? If you answered yes, there is a simple way of getting debt collectors and creditors from calling you.

Congress has passed a legislation called as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Per the act, you have the right to inform the debt collector to stop calling you and leaving messages on your home or work phone. However, be advised that the law specifies you request in writing so immediately send out a certified mail with a return receipt.

The debt collector has to comply to your request and will immediately stop calling you.

What if your original creditor refuses to comply with your do not call request?
Unfortunately, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is not applicable to the original creditor. Instead dig deep into your state law to see if you have similar provisions to stop the creditor from calling you at home or at work. Texas, Michigan and California state have laws that require the debt collector to stop calling and revert to a mail based communication only.

While this may sound as a momentary relief, start to assess your financial situation to see where you may be going wrong. Live on a budget, cut down your expenses, live frugally and defer your expenses. Cough up the money and pay off your creditors.
